Orange Honey Cake Recipe

This Orange Honey Cake is one of those bakery items that will have your home smelling like sweet orange. While this recipe is designed to be baked in a loaf pan, you can most certainly use a bundt pan or even a cupcake pan. Only the baking time would need to be adjusted.

Many years ago when I sold my first house, the real estate agent suggested baking a cake or cookies just prior to the open house. Of course, I called Mom and this is the recipe she told me to bake. Needless to say, the recipe was a hit. Not only did people love the Orange Honey Cake, I had multiple offers on my home. I can’t guarantee this cake recipe will sell your house, but it certainly won’t hurt. If anything, you would appear to be a great host or hostess.

Prep Time: 15 min.

Bake Time: 65-75 min.

Ingredients for Cake Recipe

2 Eggs, Large
¾ C. Sugar, Granulated
½ C. Honey
3 T. Vegetable Oil
2 t. Instant Coffee Granules
⅓ C. Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate, Thawed
1-¾ C. All-Purpose Flour
1 t. Baking Soda
1 t. Baking Powder
1/8 t. Table Salt
1/2 t. Allspice, Ground
3/4 t. Cinnamon, Ground

Directions for Cake Recipe

Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a large bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, honey, and vegetable oil with a mixer until blended.
Dissolve the instant coffee granules in ½ C. warm water. It’s important to dissolve the instant coffee before mixing into cake batter.
Pour the dissolved coffee into the batter with orange juice.
Mix in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, allspice, and cinnamon.
Don’t put that mixer away yet. Blend the ingredients for a minute or until the cake batter becomes smooth.

Pour the cake batter into a greased 9” x 5” x 3” loaf pan, then bake for 65-75 minutes. You may check to see if it’s done by inserting a toothpick into the center of the orange cake and see if it comes out clean. If it’s wet, leave it in the oven and check again in a couple of minutes.
When the cake is done, remove from the oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack for about 10-15 minutes. Then invert or turn the pan over and the cake must cool completely before slicing.

The Ultimate Taste Test

We understand this is challenging because of the tantalizing aroma, but have a little patience. If you slice the cake while it’s still warm, there is a good chance the cake will either go flat or dry out or both! I mentioned waiting until the cake is completely cooled all the way through because I did make the mistake of slicing too early. The cake smelled so good, my husband couldn’t wait. I sliced the cake, releasing a bunch of steam and by the time it actually cooled, the rest of the cake was too dry to enjoy. The cake should take an hour to cool and then you can enjoy a nice slice of Orange Honey Cake.
